The 2024 JMCOlympics – New Games, New Home, Same Great Time!

It was a beautiful November afternoon for the 2024 JMCOlympics! This year we moved the games to the Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center in Micanopy, we took advantage of the expansive fields, natural setting… and, thank goodness, real bathrooms instead of Porta Potties!

The JMCOlympics is an annual field day-style competition for our Gainesville and Ocala offices. The day starts with a light lunch before we dive into the competition. While some of us choose to be on a team, others volunteer as referees to plan the games and officiate the event. (We also encourage our families to come out and cheer us on as we compete!)

This year’s games ran the gamut of talents, from our athletic Agility Course with hurdles and balance beams to a battle of the pop culture minds in a Movie Quotes contest. Communication skills were put to the test with Blind Snakes, a group effort in navigating and listening (blindfolded, of course — hence the name).

The perennial party favorite Limbo made an appearance this year, as did a chaotic Rock Paper Scissors battle. We shuffled along with a Paper Plate Chase and got soaked during the Fire Bucket Brigade. And of course we had our annual favorites, the Relay Race and the Tug of War.

In the end, the Orange Team claimed victory and the coveted gold medals! The Red Team came in a very close second to claim silver, while the Yellow Team was rewarded for its third-place finish with bronze. Awards were also given for Best Team Spirit, Most Intense Team, Most Athletic Competitor (male and female), Mr. Congeniality, and — of course — Biggest Trash Talker.
